Ok, I am going to try to type this in word and transfer to blogger, if it will let me.
The adventure begins on Wednesday the 15th, up at 4:00am with the worst cramps in years; of course my period had to arrive on time this month. So I got up made coffee took half a bottle of aspirin and watched the news til Alex got up at 6:00. Got him ready and off on his way to school. Then Steve got up and we got ready and left to get to our 9:00am closing.
Arrived early so sat and looked at the paint color swatches I had picked up a couple weeks ago. At 5 to 9 we went into the building to start signing away our lives, or my life since the loan is in my name.
Signed papers for about an hour and a half and finally the place was ours. Oh and the lady didn’t bring the house keys, apparently they never locked the house so didn’t think maybe we would like to have the keys in our grubby little paws once it was ours.
Then of course we had to stop at Men*ards and bought ceiling fans with lights for the upstairs bedrooms since there are no lights or radiators in the bedrooms. Then I started getting cranky because of course by then the aspirin from 4:00am was wearing off. So we stopped and ate and I took another handful of pills.
We stopped at the trailer to get the cleaning supplies and change into cleaning clothes and it was a good thing we did. The place was FILTHY!!!!! I spent 8 hours on Wednesday cleaning the kitchen cupboards, walls, fridge and floor. So far in the 7 days we have owned the place I have washed that floor 5 or 6 times and it is still coming back with black water. I have used every different cleaner I have in my arsenal of cleaners. Perhaps I am starting to just dissolve the damn thing now, who knows.
While I was busy in the kitchen Steve tore out all the carpet from the three bedrooms, was that gross. I am sure the neighbors were wondering what the hell we were doing as Steve decided instead of dragging that gross stuff all through the house he opened a window and was pitching it out the second floor window onto the front yard. Then he was going to just leave it there. I convinced him that we probably should drag it into the garage and then cut it up and roll it nice for the garbage men.
Thursday, back to the house at 7:00am to clean some more. I started in on taking the fuzz off the walls. All the walls were covered in dust and cobwebs, it looked like no one had lived here in a really long time. Apparently when this lady was told that having hot water heat reduced the amount of dust in your house, she took that to mean it was a self cleaning house and having 3 kids and 2 adults, they never brought in any dirt or dust. My Bloglandian Duty for the Day: Hot water heat does not equal self cleaning house.
Even the closets in the bedrooms, which they did use as they were full of crap both times we looked at the place, had those icky black cobwebs that I have not seen so many since my Grandpa died and we cleaned out the upstairs at the old farm house that had not been used in 20 years.
One of the guys I work with came over in the evening and replaced the outlets in the living room. Oh that was fun, we found out that only the top of each outlet had power all the time and the bottom one was controlled by a switch that was in the dining room. Guess we will be duct taping that switch up so that we can plug in the TV, DVD player, Playstation and then lamps to light the place since there is no overhead lights in that room.
That is about all I can remember about Thursday, I guess all the cleaning chemical fumes got to me on that day. Oh yeah, we primed our bedroom and Alex’s bedroom. I forgot to bring home the digital camera and the one disposable that we had film left on, the flash didn’t work. I did get pictures of the before, when we first walked in but you really don’t see the fuzzy walls or the floor filth. I did wash the woodwork in the stairwell and washed a layer of filth off the wood floors in the living room and dining room.
Friday, more wall washing and then went and ordered carpet for the boy’s room. Fuck is that shit expensive when you have it installed! Steve insisted that we have a “professional” do the install. Shit, I could easily have done it myself and saved the $250 dollars it cost us for that. Needless to say, I will be doing the other two bedrooms no matter what the husband says, unless he is willing to fork out the cash for it next time.
Then the painting began. Steve started painting while I went to order and pay for the carpet. He won’t be painting walls again. I bought the good paint, just plain white to start, so it is a bit thicker then the cheap paint. He used over half a can of paint on two walls in Alex’s room, the little room. It was like cake frosting on that damn walls. I used the rest of the can to finish the walls and all the trim and ceiling in that room. Plus with no exhaust fans or air circulation in this house we had to open windows and put the regular fans going to stop the steam from building up at the top of the walls and causing it to run. We have a few drips on the walls. I can sand it later, right?
Then I got our room painted. When the carpet came up in our room there were cork tiles on the floor, very pretty except that whoever painted that room was an even messier painter then I am and I spent an hour scraping paint off that floor and then washing it and then putting a clear floor polish on it. It looks nice except for the areas that must have been a wall at some time and is patched with plywood. We have to be careful walking in there too because we left the tack strips on floor for the mysterious someday that we get carpet in that room.
I thought that I should clean out the shower in the one and only bathroom we have with a tub and shower. Yeah, that was interesting. Apparently besides not cleaning the house, these people did not bath or shower either. The tub surround is only attached with about 3 gobs of adhesive to the wall and it is one of the super cheap ass plastic things that if you set a full bottle of shampoo on the shelf in it, the shelf bends til the shampoo falls off. At some point they must have attempted to resurface the bathtub and that so did not work out for them. When we came to see the place they had a tub mat in the bottom of the tub, and tell me who is going to touch one of those things covered with other peoples tub/body scum? So how was I to know that when they took their tub mat out and took it with them that the fucking resurfacing paint would be peeling off in sheets? Or that the damn tub surround was not caulked, AT ALL, all the way around the tub? Oh, and how many people climb into the bathtub or shower when they are looking at a house? I highly suggest that you do this if you are taller then 4 feet. The shower head hits me in the chin and I am only 5’4”. Plus the floor is the old plank floor boards that have been painted white yet not ever sanded to be smooth but still have pits and scrapes that are wonderful at collecting any dust or dirt in them that is impossible to get out.
Oh, and the radiators upstairs. There is one in the hallway and one in the bathroom. We took the cover off the one in the hallway and the damn thing was so fuzzy that you could barely see between the sections of the radiator. I tried to suck it out with the shop vac but the attachment was not long enough. So I got the bright idea of using the blower option on the shop vac. Don’t try doing this AFTER you have washed all the damn walls and floors in your house. The blower on this machine could hold back a freaking tidal wave and needless to say sent softball gobs of dust all over the house, all the way downstairs. It is clean now though so hopefully should work better as it will not need to heat all that damn dust up and can now heat the air and the house. The one in the bathroom was full of crusty old pot pouriee seed pods. Also, the top part from being in a bathroom was sticky and filthy on the top. Clean now.
Saturday I had to work helping collect deer heads, you know November in Wisconsin is the big deer slaughter and working for the people I work for, can’t say it here, I volunteer to help out the one program I would love to work for if only they could pay as well as the shit ass program I do work for. So I was off by 7:00am to work a 13 hour day in the wind and cold looking at dead deer and chopping off their heads and filling out paperwork. Needless to say, I now have a fucking cold and a huge ass cold sore on my bottom lip that looks like someone punched me. Part of the cold sore thing though is from the stress of this stupid house purchase, cleaning and moving.
So Steve was in charge of rallying the troops to get all our crap, ok, my crap, moved to the new house. It got done, I am so very impressed, Good Job Honey! We ended up spending Saturday night at the trailer still, simply because we could shower there. Then Sunday I had to babysit for my neighbors 18 month old, the one that was due the day after my due date with the first baby I lost, so yeah, little sleep, exhausted, stressed about not being able to help out at my own damn house and then having to take care of a baby that I should have had one that same age, I was a bit overwhelmed.
Sunday night after I was done babysitting I got over to the house and was amazed at all the shit I have. I will be having a huge ass rummage sale soon. So started just trying to figure out what was what and where to put the shit. I also caulked the tub surround so that we could at least start taking showers there, that is fun, I am learning how to do back bends in order to rinse my hair.
So it is coming together slowly. Still need to finish a bit of cleaning at the trailer so that hopefully that will sell. Since all of you lovelies in Blogland sent those good wishes and I got a house please send some more so that my trailer sells. I am also developing a fine set of leg and ass muscles from going up and down stairs a million times a day now instead of living on a nice flat trailer.
Oh and we brought the poor cats over. They are NOT happy about any of this. They refused to come out of the cat carrier for 4 hours and then when 2 of them did come out they ended up hiding behind the dryer all the way down in the gross dirty basement. Monday night I did some laundry and when I fired up the dryer Squirt shot out of behind the dryer like a canon but Jack stayed in there and howled like he was being killed. So I grabbed both of them and put them on the couch with Alex. Elsa still had not left the pet carrier so I put her on the couch with Alex too.
When I left work Tuesday morning Elsa had made it upstairs and was hiding under the covers of our bed. At one point Jack had been up there as well as I saw him run when I got up to shut the alarm off. So I guess we will see what adventures await me when I get home.
Oh, and I am having relatives for Thanksgiving, do you think I should maybe buy a turkey?
Oh, and I got a call from the one and only DD, at work! One of the links on her blog was taking me to a porn site, apparently it is just my computer, lucky me. Too bad it keeps happening on my freaking WORK computer. Not good. But Nana-na-nana, I talked to DD. We so have to have a Midwest Blogfest this summer. Just don't let her have any permanent markers. ;)
