Need Books?

I have been actually getting the bug to clean out and part with some of my older treasures to make room for the new. ;) Or maybe I should just stop collecting all crap in general? That is what the husband would say.

So anyway, I started last night with clearing out a few books. I have been hanging on to these babies for years now but they spent 5 years in the barn at my parent's house and then the last 3 in the built in cupboard in Alex's bedroom.

This is the dining room table with the books to go.

This is the cupboard after about 1/3 of my books were taken out. I know, I should have done a before picture so you would appreciate just how bad it was.

More of the closet/cupboard. Someday I had hoped to have a house that I could have a library in. That obviously didn't happen and then the girl came along so since I am sure I wouldn't be able to give her away, the books will have to go. (I hope you know I am kidding about giving the girl away, well, most of the time anyway) ;)
I will put together the list of what books I have available and if anyone is interested let me know. Email me and I will send you off a box of books. I would prefer them to go to people who will love them and squeeze them and call them George. ;)
Some authors that I can think of right now:
Sarah Douglas, The Troy Game series, I have 4, I think there are a couple more.
Steven Brust
Lawrence Watts Evan might be Evan Watts, Dragonweather, Dragon Venom and a third one
Terry Goodkind, I have 7 or 8 of this series
Anne McCaffrey, Pegasus series, the first of the Acorna books, lots of the outerspace ones, not parting with my Dragons of Pern books just yet. ;) I am hoping one of my kids will want to read them in some lifetime.
R.A. Salvatore, Icewind Dale Trilogy and associated books, Mortalis, Immortalis, Transendence and one more in that series.
I am hoping to have more authors and titles for you tomorrow.
If you want some or know someone who would like these books please let me know. I will keep them for a few weeks or until we all get tired of tripping over the 6 huge boxes they are currently sitting in in the dining room. So spread the word.

Oooh! Free Treasure

I don't have a picture but I have a the entire back end of my Outland*r FULL of free material. Lots of flannel and cool prints. Someone posted on craigslist that they were cleaning grandma's basement and to come get it. When I left with my car full there were still boxes and boxes of material left. If only I had more space I would have taken more.

Then the best finds were in the pile of crap they were throwing out! I have a huge box of hand made doll clothes, 3 of those cases that we used to carry our dolly and all the accompaning crap for her in. They are dirty but in good shape.

So lots of crap to go through this weekend. Hopefully I can get it hidden before Steve gets home and then leaves again for the weekend. ;) Because I don't have enough crap already. I must get you some pictures of the "finds" I have made over the summer.

I just want to wiggle like a puppy over all the good shit I found. ;)

Ok, no comments that I am weird, I already know, thanks.

Email Won't Go Through

Catherine,

Not sure what is happening with your email or maybe it is mine but I can't send you the blanket pictures. So now I have to post them here. ;) Probably needed a different post at the top here anyway after that last one.

So last weekend I spent making "baby" blankets. They were supposed to be reasonable baby sized blankies. However, I failed to take into account with my measurements that I was putting one inch strips between the squares. So the one I made for my sister-in-law is big enough for a twin sized bed. That baby may be taking it to college with her.

I did adjust on the second one that I made for one of my coworker's baby but that one is still pretty darn big.

Well, here they are. The one with the green edging is for my sister-in-law and the one with the white strips in between the squares is for my coworker.

I am totally inlove with the floral square blanket now. So to supplement my fabric stash I went to our local thrift store Tuesday afternoon since I had to take off anyway due to Mom having a doctor appointment and God forbid Dad or Alex could watch the girl.
So I get to the one store and almost all of the shelves are empty and I was thinking that they were going out of business. Turns out they were doing $3.00 a bag sale to clear out inventory so that they could put out the fall and winter stuff. So I went through the sheets and pillow case section and got a couple things. Then I went through the clothing racks and made a haul. I started grabbing all floral print skirts that had decent material, obviously not the scratchy foofy skirts, then some dresses and some shirts. Then since Mom has lost so much weight this summer and none of her pants stay up on her ass I grabbed her three pairs of jeans. For 6 bucks I ended up with enough material to keep myself sewing for a few weeks!
Then I went to the next thrift store and it apparently has been taken over by new managers, it is the Salvat*on Army store here in town. They really have screwed it up. You can barely get through the aisles and they have jacked all the prices way up. So now instead of being able to move inventory they have to cram more into the store because the prices are getting outrageous. Some stuff you can get new at Walmart or Target for less they what they are trying to sell used for. Plus, all the ladies that I was just getting to know and who knew me and what I was looking for when I came in there and would sometimes put stuff aside for me, were all gone. I will give it one more visit but if it is still so crappily organized, it used to be very nice and open and easy to find stuff and to see what was on the shelves, I may have to cross it off my list. This is one of two left in town.
The St. Vinnie store closed last year due to a greedy property owner upping their rent so they couldn't afford it. These are charity shops people, give them a break. One good thing on that situation, the asshole still hasn't gotten that space rented again. I guess you should have kept what income you did have in place. HA!
Melissa, I got your comment but have no way to contact you. So either get my email from Flicka or email through the link on the blog here and I will get the measurements for your baby so I can get her some butt covers.
I did actually sell three pair from my listing on craigsl*st. So that was exciting.
Statia, I see what you were talking about with the seams at the knees. I just let Marjorie wear them like that. I will work on figuring out how to correct it and then send a pair for the girl to see if it works better. I still have some cute sweaters "in stock". ;)

Random Rants, turned a bit political because I am sick of the crap

Just a heads up for you, my blog, my opinions, if you don't like them then stop now.  Comments are on but can be turned off.

What the hell are alligator lizards and how do they get in the air?

Will one swig, most of it spit out on the chair, harm the baby?   Apparently not.  4 days later and she is just fine, not even a scarey diaper after the incident.

Anyone know an easy, crabby free way to break a very stubborn little girl of the bottle?  Pacifier?

Did anyone one in southeastern WI actually take a driver's ed class?  If so, what do they teach in the classes down here?

I heart Rachel Maddow.

I heart Keith Olberman too.  Mmmmm, big strong opinionated men in suits.  Maybe he is a bit opinionated but the comments on some of the sites sure are pissy when it comes to someone else having a different point of view.

Why is it so difficult to sew something round versus any other freaking shape?

Why do people say that they welcome differing opinions yet freak the fuck out if anyone offers comments that are actually of a differing opinion?  It is all "free speech" and "we are not terrorists" yet they call the president and anyone who wants to promote a different opinion "terrorists"  and idiots.  Well, suck it you jack asses, free speech means that the people holding townhall meetings should be allowed to actually SPEAK!!!  Maybe there are people who want to hear what they have to say and you are impeding that process.  If you all weren't so damn worried that this would be passed then there wouldn't be a need for all this showboating.  It isn't like the American people are going to vote on this.  But it would be nice if they could have the opportunity to actually ask their questions without being in fear for their lives at these meetings.  This is everyone's opportunity to find out what is happening without having to find and read the entire proposal.  So shut the hell up.  If you seriously think that it is so terrible then you don't have to worry about YOUR elected officials voting for it.

Some people I know in real life need to get a sense of humor.

What is up with all the idiots with the mob mentality not allowing Senators and Representatives to speak at the Town Hall meetings?  Is it that perhaps they are afraid that the plan that is layed out to date is actually going to benefit the majority of the public.

The lies.
No, my parents will not be marched off to a death camp, nor would my baby if she has something wrong with her.
No, my current insurance will not be taken away from me.
No, I won't be forced to go to a doctor chosen by the "government"

Yes, insurance companies may have to become competitive with their prices, WAA!
Yes, I can still keep my current insurance and there is a chance it may actually get better.
Yes, my parents will continue to have their insurance, Medi*care and Tri*Care, both government run insurance plans.
Yes, the CEOs of insurance companies may have to take a cut in pay.  If they hadn't spent all the money that they have all been collecting for who knows how many years they really wouldn't have to worry.

Seriously, if I won the lottery and ended up with a million after taxes, I seriously could quit my job and live quite comfortably for the rest of my life and put both of my children through college and pay for health insurance for the family.  So to those who have made 13 million or more every year for several years, too freaking bad if you don't know what a damn savings account is.  That is what you are saying to all the people who have lost their jobs over the past 8 years.

"So sorry you lost your job, oh you have a kid with asthma?  Oh, good luck with that.  Sure we will offer up an insurance plan for your family but that sick kid, yeah, no that is an existing condition, that would be an extra $1000 a month and a special plan for that one above and beyond the $2000 a month for the rest of the family.  How do you want to pay for this?  Automatic withdrawal?  Credit card?  Oh, right you don't have a job, what about a savings account, oh you don't have that either because you lost your job 6 months ago and your child had some issues with Spring and Summer.  Aw, that is just too damn bad.  We will be happy to help you when you can give us 2 months premium up front.  Don't let the door hit you on the way out. "

Don't give up on this reform.  It needs to be done so that people who currently have insurance don't end up paying half of their salary to cover their premiums.

And when is Sar*h "Dumbass" P*lin going to go the fuck away?  I guess for all the GOP were embarassed by her during the campaign now she is A-Ok because she draws a crowd and babbles on and on like the idiot she is talking out of her ass so they want her around now because she is furthering their cause.

Ok, so maybe this wasn't so random after all.

I can't believe that anyone is even questioning that health care reform would be a good thing.  The lies that are being bandied about to try and get this shot down just fucking amaze me.

Business?

Ok, so I am trying to get some supplemental income going on, just because it is always nice to have some extra in the bank. Since I am doing cloth diapers for the girl I had made some wool diaper covers for her, as you probably saw in previous posts. Then I got a bit crazy on the purchasing of wool sweaters to make more. Currently I have more wool sweaters waiting for the new lives the Carter has liverpills, as my grandma used to say.

So I am going to post some pictures of a few more that I have made because I had to use up these sweaters since I had no place else to put them. Now I need to get rid of the finished product. These can be used as diaper covers or just as shorts or pants if that is what you need.

If you know of anyone or if you yourself are doing cloth diapers and are interested, I am thinking of trying to sell these. I have seen very plain, offwhite, boring covers like this on some sites for as high as $80. My thought is more like $10. I am offering to the first 5 who comment from the US or Canada the chance to be my guinea pigs, for free, as to how I did on sizing and also what you think about the style. All I ask in return is that you give me feedback on what you think about them. Just leave a comment with your email and I will contact you for your mailing info.

So here are just a few pictures, not sure how many I can fit here since I got this fancy new camera from Catherine and I can't figure out how to downsize the pictures. So I may have to post another one with just pictures.

Thanks.

Blue ones: short legs, thicker, smallest pair I am able to make, probably fit baby up to 14 pounds, depending on waist and thigh size, I need to get those measurements for all of these.
Pink: Extra long legs, this pair is probably one of the biggest sizes I have in stock. Easily fits Marjorie and she is 27 pounds and 35 inches tall.

Purple: Slightly smaller then the pink, I could get these on Marjorie but they would be tight so probably babies from 15 to 25 pounds, unless they are long and thin.

Enlarge the picture for the cool detail on the waist. This was a gorgeous sweater in a previous lifetime and was one of the first ones I did that day so was able to think better and use the detail from the sweater to make the pants look cuter. This pair has a bit shorter legs, kind of capri style, fit babies from 10 -20 pounds, again depending on waist and thigh size.
I will put up another post with just pictures and descriptions of the other ones I have completed. So don't think you are limited in your selections. I have orange, light blue, medium blue, merino wool, cashmere and regular wool. I have tried to only get sweaters that feel soft, since I wouldn't want to wear a scratchy old wool sweater so for sure would not put one on my baby's delicate skin.
Watch for more pictures coming. My coworker just showed me how to make the picture files smaller so hopefully that means I can put more then 4 on a post.
Thanks for looking and do let me know if you want to give them a try.

It Started With a Plea for a Serger

Yes, finally posting my Ohio adventure or at least as much of it as I can remember since it was a whole month ago.

Catherine put up a plea for a serger. I happened to have one collecting dust in my closet and have wanted to meet this amazing woman for many years now, so I proposed a meet and switch. When I mentioned that on my way to invade her personal space I would have to stop in Sandusky for a photo op due to loving the movie "Tommy Boy", she said that she would be in Sandusky that very weekend. This was on Monday. So the planning began.

I briefly ran the idea past the husband, who showed little to no interest in going. Next step was the Boy, as the plan was to go to the big Cedar Point amusement park and Catherine's husband needed someone to go on the big scarey rides with him. The Boy was not interested but since he is still a minor and subject to the rule of the Queen, Me, he was rousted out of bed at the God aweful hour, for him, of 7:00am on a Friday and off we went.

I even remembered to pack the serger, all the various extra parts and the instruction book. I know, I hardly believe it myself.

Off we went after hitting the gas station, ATM and checking the map. Getting around the construction and crap that is lovely Chicago and onto I80 thru Indiana and then Ohio was fairly easy. I just want to say the Indiana and Ohio have a great system for their toll road, get your ticket when you get on and just freaking go, then pay when you get off. None of that stopping every freaking mile or two like Illinois has. Plus no having to still drive through major cities. Loved it. May take another trip to Ohio just to enjoy a sensible interstate system. ;)

So we made it through 4 states in a little over 6 hours and found out hotel no problem. The Boy was not thrilled about having to wake up and I know this was so mean of me, but I made him read the directions off of my mapquest print out. Can you believe how incredibly cruel I am?

So we checked in, called Catherine who volunteered to come pick us up to go find something to eat. She arrived and how best to describe her? She is just a nice and sweet, funny, smart, interesting and gorgeous as she seems from her blog. We chatted as if we had known each other forever and not just via email and blogs for the past 4 1/2 years. When the Boy started groaning we decided to stop the chatting and get looking for some food. So off we went over to the hotel she was staying at. We wandered around there for a while and then found out there was too long of a wait for dinner at that place so off we went to find a different food source.

We happened upon the Thirsty Pony and pulled in. Good food, nice wait staff and beer. ;) More chatting of course and the Boy even chimed in a bit once he had some food in him, which always make for a happier Boy.

Then we go back to our hotel. I think she would have been ready to tear up the town but I was way too tired, sorry Catherine to be a party pooper. Plus we had a big day of amusement park adventuring for the next day and if I don't get sleep, you really don't want to be around me.

Saturday I am up at the God aweful hour of 6:00am, Ohio time so really 5:00am Wisconsin time. Even without the girl to wake me I still wake up. Damn internal clock. So I showered, went and got coffee and noticed that there was a rummage sale going on just down the block from the hotel. Well, I love me a good rummage and could not pass up the opportunity of being able to say I at least went to a rummage sale in Ohio. So I wander on down and oh the treasure I found, I should have driven my car.

I will have to take pictures of some of my treasures. I ended up with two white Pyrex dishes, one even had the cover for it. Two turquoise faux leather wallets, with the original purchase receipts from 1974 in the one. I have been using them ever since. I got a Coleman aluminum water cooler, super cool and only $2.00. Plus a bag of books for mom and dad. The best purchase, which I almost passed on, was an old Better Homes and Garden cookbook. But I figured for .25 I would just get it.

A little back story on the cookbook, when I went off to college mom sent along her BH&G cookbook. This had her famous popcorn ball recipe in it. I proceeded to leave that cookbook in the kitchen of the first house I lived in at college and have been tormented about the fact that I lost the damn popcorn ball recipe.

So back to this cookbook, I just tossed it in the bag with the other books and didn't think anything more about it. Well, it has the POPCORN BALL RECIPE!!!!!! I have redeemed myself.

Ok, back to the adventures with Catherine and company. Saturday after she was done with her conference she called and the whole family came to get up. Her husband is so nice and sweet, don't let her fool you with what she posts about him on her blog. ;) Sam is a doll and Myles, oh my best friend Myles. Too cute for words.

So we load up with the Boy and her husband stuffed in the back end of the van and away we go. After some remembering at the last minute that there were no diapers for Myles in the stroller. (this is so what makes me love her more then I ever did before, I am not the only one who does shit like this) We enter the park. The big boys couldn't leave us fast enough to begin going on the scarey rides even though my Boy was kind of quiet. So Catherine and I wander with the little boys and Sam does some rides and lots of pictures are taken, hopefully someday they will be retrieved from the bad computer.

After several hours the little boys are hungry so a stop is made at the hotdog stand. Sam get his and puts a ton of ketchup on his dog. Husband says there is too much, wipes most off the hotdog. Sam starts crying. Catherine do you know what comes next?

Catherine apparently has had it with the fussing by this time,

"Just eat the damn hotdog!" was then uttered. I couldn't help but laugh because, again, something I totally would do, only much early in the day the cussing would have started.

YES! I knew I loved this woman even before I met her in real life. ;) Sorry Catherine I had to put that in here.

Other fun things, I was almost hit by a flying cellphone that fell out of someone's pocket when they were on the "tower of death" ride, that is not it's real name but that is exactly what it looked like when I was standing under the darn thing. We didn't depart the park until almost 10:00pm, way past my bedtime.

They all were staying at the same hotel as us that night and turned out they were in the room right across the hall. So they had to put up with me bugging them that night and then getting them all up at the butt crack of dawn on Sunday.

My drive back home was good until I got to Illinois, took the wrong turn and ended up going through downtown Chicago on a Sunday afternoon with Taste of Chicago, the Gay Pride parade and a White Sox game all going on plus add in the boatload of construction. Yeah, took me almost 3 hours just to get to the northside of Chicago. Then another hour from there to home. That sucked. But we made it and didn't run out of gas though my bell kept going off before we hit the Wisconsin border that I was going to run out at any minute.

So there, that is what I remember about my trip to Ohio. Catherine posted much closer to the date of the adventure with additional details.

Thanks for a great weekend Catherine and you know anytime you want to come to Boringtown, WI you are all welcome. So great to know you all can handle the animals as well. Did you see, I didn't share that tidbit with blogland. ;)

Look Out Sandusky!

Going on a roadtrip to Sandusky, OH tomorrow to meet the wonderful and very patient Catherine. My blondeness, did I spell that right?, is totally showing through today. I am all a twitter, ha, haven't even put this up on Twitter.

Hopefully I remember to bring all the parts to the serger that I am trading her, which is the whole reason for finally getting to meet her. Now if I can just remember where I stashed all those parts. I suppose it would have been way to easy to just keep them all together, right?

So maybe at some time in the future I will post about this adventure, don't hold your breath.

Can't wait to finally meet her and her lovely family. Hopefully the boy child will agree to come along and be my map reader.

Any suggestions on how to force an almost 16 year old to take a roadtrip with his old mother? Wish me luck.

Check This Out

Not sure how many of my faithful readers are country music fans, but this would turn me off of at least one artist if I even was a fan.

Crystal's sister and her husband totally got the shaft from one Mr. Brad Paisley.

Keeping up with Catherine

Lately I have been attempting to use as many coupons and buy stuff we need on sale. Walgreens has been my best savings space lately. So to try and keep up with Catherine, who I just found out got to see one of my favorite bands ever, live, I am going to post my weekend savings. Maybe if I put it in writing it will either look really good or make me rethink what I am buying. So here goes nothing.

Walgreens Stop #1
Walgreens whitening strips
Ecotrin aspirin
Degree Men's pitstick
Schick Quatro trimstyle
Bayer Aspirin
Nivea body wash
3-12 packs Pepsi products

Total spent $62.88
Coupons/savings $19.47
Register Rewards back $18.50

Walgreens Stop #2
Folgers
4 - 6 packs Gatorade
2 - Tidy Cat, 14 lbs
Northern Tissue
2 Kleenex 200 ct
4 Garnier Shampoo
2 Garnier hair glue
2- Sunlight dish soap
Aleve
Schick Quatro refill
Secret pitstick
4- men's speed stick
Reynolds wrap

Total $68.10
Coupons/Savings $57.85 This includes my register rewards from stop #1
Walgreens Easy Saver gift card $13.19
Miscellaneous giftcards collecting dust in my wallet $54.91
Total out of pocket this stop $0

Found out that the Easy Saver system is being stopped, just when I get it figured out too. Now they are going to all register rewards, which freaking expire so I have to remember to get back in and use them. Apparently people were complaining that it took too long to get their Easy Saver check or gift card back. Hello Idiots! It says right on the form that it could take up to 10 weeks to get it back. My very first one only took two weeks. I would much rather have that, which didn't expire in a week then the register rewards. Oh well, guess I just have to keep playing the game and see what I can save.

So we are now good on shampoo and deoderant, incase you were wondering. Plus if you come visit, you have many choices for washing your hair to chose from. ;)

Now that I have boatloads of shampoo I am thinking about getting all my hair cut off. Have to keep up with DD on that one. ;) Not sure though if I want to go short before the big class reunion again. Did that for the 20 year and my hair was the same as it was when I graduated, boy short and stick straight. So if I can hold out until Labor Day weekend with this mop I have going on it will be a miracle. I probably shouldn't have tried cutting it myself this weekend. I have no idea what the back looks like now. I just hope it stays curled for the day, that usually hides many imperfections.

Water in the basement, oh yeah!
Boy home puking from school today. Hope he is keeping up with the water.
Girl still has a nasty cough but the snot nose seems to be better.
Parents coming home 2 weeks earlier then planned. Mother has an enlarged heart, that she just found out about. Plus fluid on one of her lungs. Dad is coughing up his lungs due to an infection so has been getting antibiotic shots for the past week. Hopefully they will be able to cross the border today and get out of the county and not bring the pig flu home with them. None of us will be needing that.

Guess I will have to crack out the rotatiller one night this week so that the garden is ready to go when my mommy gets here.

What is new with you?
